HOW TO MAKE A POWERTAB

Powertab is an excellent program for creating, playing, and printing tabs. It has full notation and MIDI support so you can actually HEAR the tab that you are playing! You may download it for free from their official website! (http://power-tab.net/)

    How do I Write Fret Numbers in Powertab?

    - Click on the guitar tablature portion of the tab with the mouse, then type in a fret number using your keypad.

    How do I Set The Tempo?

    - Use the mouse to click on the spot of the tab where you want to set the tempo.
    - Click on the 'Tempo Marker' button (Bottom Row, 2nd button), or Hit 'Alt-M' then press 'o'.
    - Type in the Correct Tempo you would like, then press 'ok' button.

    How do I Change Time Signatures?

    - Click on '3/4' Button (Bottom Row, 5th Button), or Hit 'Alt-M' then press 'T'.
    - Type in the Correct Time Signature, then press 'OK' button

    How do I Make A Riff Repeat?

    - Click on the '|' Button (Bottom Row, 8th Button), or hit 'Alt-M' then press 'b'.
    - Click the appropriate repeat symbols and choose how many times to repeat, then press 'OK' button

    How do I Add Guitars, Change Guitar Tuning, and Change Instruments?

    - Click on the red guitar button, or press 'Alt-G' then press 's'.
    - To add a guitar, click the red 'add guitar' button at top right of window.
    - To change tunings, use the up/down arrows on the right-hand side of the window. You can save a default tuning you create by clicking on the 'save as default tuning' button underneath the up/down arrows on the strings.
    - To change instruments, click on the down arrow of the 'Midi" option, and select a new instrument. For the most part, you should use 'Acoustic Nylon' because it is the clearest sound, so you can hear music correctly.

    How do I make a new line?

    - Hit 'Alt-S', then press 'n'

    How do I add another staff to a line?

    - Hit 'Alt-S' and click on 'Attach Staff'

    How do I place a guitar on a specific staff?

    - Click on the staff where you want the guitar to ocme in at.
    - Click on the 'Guitar In' Button (2nd Row, 3rd Button), or hit 'Alt-G' then press 'g'.
    - Check off the 'Staff In' for the guitar which you want to add to the staff.

    How do I add/subtract extra blank space from a line?

    - Click on the staff you wish to add or subtract blank space from.
    - use the '+' or '-' keys to Add or Subtract blank space.

    How do I justify the tab?

    - Click on the staff that you wish to justify.
    - Click on the 'Justify' button (2nd Row, 5th button from the end), or hit 'Alt-s' then press 'j'.
    - NOTE: If you hit 'Alt-T' then click 'Score Polisher' it will justify the ENTIRE tab instead of just one line.

    How do I add my name/credits, and any other info?

    - To add info about the song, hit 'Alt-V' and click on 'File Information'.
    - To add info about yourself, hit 'Alt-V' and click on 'Performance Notes'.

    How do I change the length of notes?

    - Click on the note that you want to change the length of.
    - Click on the blue note buttons, (located at the bottom left of the screen), and change to the desired length.
    - You can Also do this by hitting 'Alt-N', and choosing the appropriate length.

    How do I add rests?

    - Click on a blank space of the tablature where you want to add the rest note.
    - Click on the rightmost buttons, (located at the bottom right of the screen), and change to the desired length.
    - You can Also Click on 'Rest' (Under Menu at top of screen), then click on 'Normal/High Melody Rest'

    How do I add hammer-ons, pulloffs, vibrato, tremelo etc...?

    - Click on the notes that you want to add notation to.
    - Hit 'Alt-T' (then press the down arrow) and pick the correct notation.
    - You can also hit the buttons (3rd Row, right side) to change notation.

    How do I add a ghost note?

    - Click on 'Alt-N' then select 'Ghost Note'.
    - The ghost note button '(9)' is also located on the bottom of the screen towards the right-hand side.

    How do I play a song?

    - Click on 'MIDI' (Under Menu at top of screen), then click on 'Play', or 'Play From Beginning'.
    - The Play Button is also located on the 1st Row on the right-hand side.

    How do I turn on/off the metronome?

    - Click on 'MIDI' (Under Menu at top of screen), then click on 'Metronome', to turn on/off the metronome.
